Kerf
App for Woodworkers

The Problem

As a woodworker, I saw a need for a community driven app for woodworking plans. Currently most woodworking plans are either behind magazine paywalls, cost money to purchase, or are designed to sell products. There are decent free ones, but the quality runs the gamut.

The Solution

I created a free app, optimized for phones and tablets, intended as a repository for well designed, copyright-free woodworking plans. It used AI to standardize the format so were plans all clear and easy to follow. AI also added valuable information that a plan may have lacked such as cut lists or additional explanations. AI also checked for copyright infringement of any uploaded plans.

The name, “Kerf” derives from the thickness of the blade in woodworking, typically a calculation that needs to be added to cut measurements.
